در کتاب«اساطیر هند» نوشته ورونیکا ایونس، درباره ویشنو در هیات راما آمده است:« ویشنو، در هفتمین تجلی خود به هیات راما متجلی شد… دو تجلی ششم و هفتم ویشنو، در حماسه های رامایانا و مهاباراتا ثبت شده است.» تجلیات دیگر ویشنو؛ ماتیسه، کورمه، ورمه، ناراسینهه، وامنه، پرسورام و کریشنا است. ‹BR› تجلی هفتم ویشنو در هیات انسانی، «راما» یا «رام چندر» نام دارد. در کتاب «اساطیر هند» آمده است: هفتمین تجلی ویشنو بر زمین هنگامی رخ می دهد که ششمین تجلی او هنوز بر زمین است. هدف هفتمین تجلی ویشنو، از میان برداشتن خطرناک ترین و نیرومندترین اهریمن، شهریار «راونا» بود. اهریمن ده سر از گونه «راکشس» بود که بر سرزمین لانکا(سیلان) فرمان می راند … با اغوای «برهما» از آسیب پذیری و کشته شدن به دست خدایان و اهریمنان ایمن بود.» ‹BR› دونا روزنبرگ، نویسنده کتاب «اساطیر جهان» معتقد است که حماسه رامایانا، بر اساس اعتقادات، اندیشه ها و پندارهای هندویی است:«در رامایانا، از اندیشه و پندارهای هندویی سخن می رود. یعنی اینکه رفتار انسان در این زندگی تعیین کننده آن چیزی است که در زندگی دیگر بر سرش می آید. بدین ترتیب سیتا شگفت زده از خود می پرسد مگر در زندگی پیشین چه کاشته است که در این دنیا چنین دشواری و مصیبتی می درود. صحنه ای که نشان می دهد راما و برادرانش زندگی زمینی را ترک می کنند و به آسمان می روند، نشانگر اعتقاد هندوان به نابودی و مرگ راستان وپرهیزکاران است».
کتاب ”اساطیر هند” توسط نویسنده مطرح و محقق در زمینه آئین ها و اساطیر هندو ”ورونیکا ایونس” نوشته شده است. این کتاب به همت نشر ”اساطیر” منتشر شده است.
اساطیر هندو بدنه وسیع اساطیر و روایات سنتی مرتبط با آئین هندوئیسم است که ریشه در ادبیات سانسکریت (شامل اشعار حماسهای مهاباراتا، رامایانا، پورانهها و وداها) دارد. پیشینه و تنوع فرهنگ و دین هندی باعث پیدایی یکی از پیچیدهترین و غنیترین مجموعه اساطیری جهان شدهاست. قدرت دیرمان این اساطیر که ریشههایش در تاریکنای زمان پنهان است، در نقش حیاتی آنها، نماینده شده که هنوز در جامعه نوین هند تأثیر گذارند. اساطیر هندو یکی از غنیترین عناصر فرهنگ هند به شمار میرود. از طریق نسلها، داستانهای مختلفی در اساطیر هندو از نسلی به نسل دیگر بوسیله کلام یا از طریق متون مقدس منتقل شدهاست
Anyone not from India and stepping into the sea of Indian mythology will find the water gets deep pretty fast. Gods, demons, and sages have multiple personalities that appear and reappear in different traditions and histories. There is no established canon or authority. The stories themselves easily fill libraries. How does one organize this mythology after learning the names of the major gods and their consorts and the story told in the Ramayana of Rama, Sita, Hanuman etc? I haven`t found a better book to explain Indian mythology and belief. The author uses a straightforward historical approach beginning with pre-Vedic deities early in Indian history including the all-important Mother Goddess in all of her manifestations. The development of Brahmanic ideas is succinctly explained. After discussing Creation myths, the author excells in discussing the many gods and goddesses of Hinduism and their historical development. Unlike most texts that discuss a seemingly endless catalogue of gods and goddesses- and they do appear in these pages as well- the author interprets their stories and relates them by theme, source, etc. with other stories. Using a historical approach, Ions bestows on the reader the power to understand the changes and additions to Indian beliefs as part of an unfolding pattern responding to social, religious, and cultural changes. Complex and amorphous, the Western reader gets a sense that the growth of Indian mythology was organic and far from haphazard and accidental. The book is well illustrated, captioned, and indexed
