Le Pourie was born on March 30, 1913, in Chernivtsi, Romania (now part of Ukraine). His first novel was Kerch, and he later wrote several other plays and novels. In 1952, he was awarded the Populis Prize for his other novel, Juliet in the Passage. In 1955, he published “Moss”, which Iranian novelists recognize as the brilliant immortal translation of Ahmad Shamloo. Herbert Le Poirier died in 1977 in Paris
